Your task is to understand the Aboriginal world of the Dreamtime. The Dreamtime or "Dreaming" means different things for different Aboriginal groups. Aboriginal people look to the Dreamtime stories as expressions of their sense of national identity; the embodiment of their creation stories, their social structure and of their spiritual existence.You will be required to become an "expert" in the Dreamtime by choosing one aspect of Dreamtime knowledge. You can become an expert in the Dreamtime knowledge that relates to language, culture, social structure, the environment or food (plant & animal).You will be required to work in groups of 4 (no larger than 5 if odd number of students in the class), and you will choose to become an expert in the Dreamtime knowledge as if you were seeking to understand the Dreamtime as an Aboriginal identity. You may choose the role of an Elder of an important tribe, a hunter who provides for the day-to-day survival of the tribe, or as a Songman who leads the tribe in the right-of-passage initiations or tribal ceremonies. You can also choose to be an Aboriginal child in order to better understand the importance of the Dreamtime from the perspective of one of the younger members of the tribal community.Some of the language used in this WebQuest may be unfamiliar to you.
